The Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon has run since 2002, and its 25th edition is on 11 April 2027; organisers expect more than 21,000 participants and about 150,000 spectators over the weekend. There are nine formats: marathon, half marathon (including handbike), quarter marathon, 5 km, relay, inline half marathon, a junior race and a Special Olympics run. The course is known for being fast and flat — Jackline Chepngeno set the women's course record of 2:26:01 in 2026 — and for its start on the VÖEST bridge over the Danube, before runners tour the city and the riverbanks. Linz, a former European Capital of Culture, has the Ars Electronica Center, the Lentos art museum on the waterfront, the Pöstlingberg tram and the famous Linzer torte.
