The Lucca Half Marathon is a FIDAL-sanctioned race held by ASD Lucca Marathon in early May, when Tuscany is at its greenest. The programme also includes a competitive UISP 10 km and the non-competitive La Lucchesina 10 km, so you can pick your distance and bring the whole family. It is a friendly city race steeped in Lucca's running culture — in summer the same club hosts a flat-out lap of the famous city walls. Lucca is one of Tuscany's loveliest towns: walk or run the four-kilometre ring of walls, see the oval Piazza dell'Anfiteatro and the Guinigi Tower with oak trees on its roof, and visit Puccini's birthplace.
