The Luzerner Stadtlauf is an April Saturday race through Lucerne's old town; in 2026 it was held for the 48th time with about 15,000 participants and more than 25,000 spectators. The distances are short, from 660 m to 7 km, but the speed and atmosphere feel like a major race, with narrow old-town lanes, the banks of the Reuss and Lake Lucerne, and dense corridors of fans. It is a real city festival with family and school races, team categories and a charity 'solidarity run'. Lucerne is a picture-postcard city with the wooden Chapel Bridge, the Lion Monument and the Musegg walls, and from the waterfront steamers and trains head to Pilatus and Rigi.
