Ultra SkyRunning Madeira takes place in June in Santana municipality on the island's north coast and attracts hundreds of runners from many countries — around 580 from 33 nations lined up for the main race in 2026. The flagship Madeira Sky Race covers 52 km with over 4,000 m of climbing, joined by the 22 km Santana Sky Race and the 12 km Norte Sky Race. The routes follow the steep ridges and peaks of northern Madeira, with technical climbs, ocean views and clouds below your feet. Santana is famous for its triangular thatched houses, and nearby lie the UNESCO-listed Laurisilva laurel forest, the trail to Pico Ruivo and levadas past waterfalls.
