The Apfel Arena Makarska Half Marathon takes place in late October, when the Makarska Riviera is still warm but the summer crowds have gone. It starts on the Riva waterfront and follows a single flat, AIMS-certified asphalt loop along the sea and through town. Besides the half marathon there is a 21 km relay for teams of three and a 5 km race in the afternoon. With the sea on one side and the sheer walls of Biokovo on the other, it is a lovely way to close the season. Makarska offers pebble beaches, Biokovo Nature Park with its Skywalk high above the sea, and fish taverns along the waterfront.
