Marathon de Colmar takes place in September and has become one of Alsace's big back-to-school sporting events. Besides the marathon there is a half, a 10 km, a two-person marathon relay, a three-person 'escadrille' and kids' races; the relay is the most popular, with over a thousand runners. The pretzel-shaped course passes through seven neighbouring communes, including Eguisheim and Wettolsheim, among vineyards and half-timbered villages, with music and a friendly atmosphere. It is a charity race that has raised more than €280,000, and Colmar itself offers 'Little Venice', the Isenheim Altarpiece and the white wines of the Alsace Wine Route.
