The Médoc Marathon is a race where finishing fastest isn't the point: organizers openly call it a celebration, not a competition, and plenty of runners drop out simply because the wine and oysters mattered more than the result. The route has over twenty wine stops at famous châteaux, oysters and steak around kilometers 38-40, and even the sweeper vehicle at the back of the pack has been known, by runners' own accounts, to linger for a tasting or two. Costumes are mandatory — no fancy dress, no start line.

Reviews

Jessie Benson (The Right Fits)2023

A big party — literally. I saw the sweeper vehicle stopping at each château to join in, and plenty of people planned from the start to drop out early just to taste as much wine as possible.

Sadie Lowell (Jet-Setting Runner)2024

2023 was brutally hot, while 2024 turned out mostly cloudy — and halfway through, the skies opened up for five solid minutes of pouring rain. Honestly? It was lovely.
