Marathon du Mont-Blanc takes place in late June in Chamonix, organised by the Club des Sports de Chamonix, founded back in 1905, and around 10,000 runners line up each year. There are eight races: 90, 42, 23 and 10 km, a vertical kilometre, the night-time Duo Étoilé for pairs and kids' races. The courses follow mountain trails around the Chamonix valley, with balcony paths facing the Mont Blanc glaciers, steep climbs and technical descents. Solidarity bibs support research into rare diseases, and after the finish Chamonix offers the Aiguille du Midi cable car, the Mer de Glace glacier and alpine terraces serving tartiflette.
