Marathon Vert de Rennes has been held in October since 2012 and draws more than 20,000 participants across its races. Its big idea is ecology: every 2 km a runner covers becomes a tree planted, and with the Yves Rocher Foundation more than 1.7 million trees have been planted in France, India, Germany and Portugal. Alongside the marathon there is a night 10 km, a marathon duo and four-person relay, a women's 5 km, a family walk and a mile sprint, on fully urban, federation-certified courses. Rennes is Brittany's capital of half-timbered houses, the Thabor park, the Saturday Lices market and galettes with cider.
