Marvejols-Mende is a legendary race in the Lozère, held in mid-July, which reached its 53rd edition in 2026 — one of the 'great classics' of French running. The 22.4 km course runs from Marvejols to Mende with about 650 m of climbing: up to the Col de Goudard at 1,018 m, past the hamlet of Chabrits and over draining false flats. More than a thousand runners take part, with a relay, a walk and kids' races, and one euro per bib goes to charity. The Lozère is France's wildest and least populated department: the Tarn gorges, the Aubrac plateau and Mende's stone centre with its cathedral.
