MaXi-Race takes place in late May around Lake Annecy in Haute-Savoie, organised by some twenty local associations and hundreds of volunteers. The signature race is the full lake tour, around 100 km with more than 5,000 m of climbing, plus a half tour of about 55 km, a marathon loop, a quarter of about 20 km, relays and a two-day format for those who want to savour the loop. Courses follow mountain ridges and alpine trails with exceptional views over the turquoise water — the organisers call it a pretext for travel and self-discovery. Annecy is the 'Venice of Savoy', with canals and the Palais de l'Isle, and afterwards there is lake swimming, reblochon and tartiflette.
