The Montepio Cascais Half Marathon takes place in early February; 2027 will be its 11th edition. The last race set a record with more than 12,000 entrants from 78 countries; the programme includes the half, 10 km and 5 km, with kids' races the day before whose entry fees all go to charity. Start and finish are on Cascais Bay, and the course runs along the ocean in a unique seaside setting. Cascais was once the summer retreat of Portuguese royalty: the marina and old town, the Boca do Inferno cliffs, beaches and the promenade to Estoril, with Sintra's palaces and wild Guincho beach nearby.
