Meia Maratona Ilha Verde is a spring half marathon on São Miguel island that held its 12th edition in April 2026, organised by the Juventude Ilha Verde club with the support of Ponta Delgada municipality. Besides the certified half there is a 10 km race, a mini-marathon and kids' races. The course is urban, flat and out-and-back: from the Portas da Cidade along Avenida Infante D. Henrique and Avenida do Mar to a turnaround at Forno de Cal, with the Atlantic and the marina in view the whole way. São Miguel is called the green island: the crater lakes of Sete Cidades and Fogo, the hot springs of Furnas with stew cooked in volcanic soil, tea plantations and whale-watching trips.
