The Vila Real Half Marathon takes place in mid-April, with a 5 km walk alongside the half. The course runs through Vila Real's picturesque streets past its monuments — the city sits on hills above the Corgo gorge, so the terrain is not the easiest. It is a great way to discover a northern city most visitors only pass through. Afterwards, don't miss the baroque Mateus Palace and gardens — the one on the famous rosé label — and head down into the Douro wine valley.
