The Viseu Half Marathon takes place in early September, when the city is still warm and summer is slowly fading. The course is a single loop of about 21 km through Viseu's streets past its historic monuments. The city lies in the centre of the country on a plateau between mountain ranges, so the terrain rolls in places. Viseu is known as the garden city: stroll through Fontelo Park, climb to the cathedral and the Grão Vasco Museum with its Portuguese Renaissance paintings and taste the wines of the Dão region.
