The Mezza Maratona di Oristano is held in February on Sardinia's west coast and attracts runners of every level. Alongside the half there are competitive and non-competitive 10 km races, fitwalking and a leisure walk, so the whole town turns out. The land around Oristano is flat, making for a fast course, and February here is usually mild and sunny. It is an intimate race with true Sardinian hospitality. Oristano has the medieval Tower of Mariano II and the square of Eleonora d'Arborea, and nearby are the Phoenician ruins of Tharros on the Sinis peninsula, flamingo lagoons and beaches of rice-grain quartz sand.
