The Mittelland Marathon is a small summer race in Härkingen in the canton of Solothurn, recognised by Swiss Running. The whole course is a beautiful 7 km forest loop run as many times as needed: half marathon, marathon, team marathon and even an 84 km double marathon with notable total climbing, plus a 7 km forest run for beginners. The trees give shade from the August heat, and the intimate atmosphere and loop format make it handy for a first marathon or for testing yourself over a very long distance. Härkingen lies in the Swiss Mittelland between Olten and Solothurn, the baroque 'ambassadors' town' with St. Ursus Cathedral and its Aare waterfront.
