The International Mondseelauf is one of the Salzkammergut's oldest races: its 45th edition is on 29 May 2027, with runners coming from more than 40 countries. There is a half marathon, 10 km, 5 km, a team run and kids' races, and every finisher gets a medal. The course loops through Almeida Park and along the Mondsee lakeside promenade to finish on the town's market square, with colour-coded markings painted on the road so you can scout it in advance. The warm-up is led by Olympic ski jumper Andreas Goldberger. Mondsee offers a turquoise lake ringed by mountains, the St Michael basilica where the wedding in 'The Sound of Music' was filmed, and Salzburg close by.
