The Montreux Trail Festival is a summer trail-running festival based on the shore of Lake Geneva in Montreux; after a break in 2025 it returned in 2026 for its ninth edition. The line-up is impressive: Crossing Riviera at 32 km, Crossing Sarina at 70 km, Crossing Highlands at 110 km, Crossing Alps at 100 miles and the extreme Crossing Switzerland, 390 km with 24,000 m of climbing, with courses climbing from the lake into the Vaud Alps. A highlight is Freddie's Night, a 15 km night race honouring Freddie Mercury, who loved Montreux, and the festival mood is completed by music, food, a family relay and a kids' race. Montreux means a palm-lined promenade with Freddie's statue, Chillon Castle on the water, the famous jazz festival and the Lavaux vineyards next door.
