Navarino Challenge has been held every May for 13 years in Messinia, on Navarino Bay, over three days. It is more than a race — a sports festival with over 60 activities, from Olympic sports to yoga and pilates, and guest stars such as ultrarunner Dean Karnazes and Olympians Periklis Iakovakis and Antigoni Drisbioti. The half marathon starts at Costa Navarino and follows the coast with modest climbing, the 10 km is half trail, half road, and the 5.4 km is mostly off-road, with races for kids too. The motto is 'sport unites people', and the vibe is genuinely Olympic. Around it lie omega-shaped Voidokilia beach, the Palace of Nestor, the Gialova lagoon with its turtles, the Polilimnio waterfalls and Methoni castle.
