Neusiedler See Marathon
26 September 2027 · Illmitz, Austria

The Neusiedler See Marathon is a young race in Burgenland: the first edition took place in 2026, and the next is set for 26 September 2027. The marathon and half marathon start at 9 a.m. from the Illmitz lido, with a six-hour limit. The course crosses the Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage area, and is as flat and fast as it gets: reed beds, salt pans, steppe and the distant outline of the Schneeberg. There are aid stations every 5 km and a medal at the finish. The Neusiedler See region is a paradise for birdwatchers, cyclists and wine lovers — try the local sweet wines and visit Rust, with storks nesting on its roofs.
