Nočni tek na Kalvarijo

The Nočni tek na Kalvarijo is an evening race up Kalvarija hill above Maribor, organised by the Maribor University Sports Union; it was held for the 15th time in October 2025. The challenge is simple and brutal: conquer the 454 steps of the stairway to the top under light effects and to the rhythm of music. Runners start individually at one-minute intervals (children every 30 seconds), and the youngest climb only to the first plateau. The organisers' motto is 'everyone who reaches the top is a winner', so it is more personal challenge than race. Kalvarija is a vine-covered hill right above town, and Maribor is famous for the world's oldest grapevine, the Lent riverside on the Drava and the Pohorje mountains.
