NUTS Karhunkierros is a spring trail race in Kuusamo in late May on the famous Karhunkierros (Bear's Ring) hiking route, with an archive going back to 2013. There's a distance for everyone: 166 km from Ruka to the Arctic Circle and back with night running, 83 km from Hautajärvi along the Oulanka river valley, 55 km from the Oulanka Visitor Centre, 34 km from Juuma and a hilly 13 km loop around Ruka. Routes run through Oulanka National Park: river canyons, suspension bridges, roots, rocks, climbs, roaring rapids and pine forest. Every distance finishes at Ruka fell. Kuusamo is a nature lover's paradise: rapids rafting, bear-watching hides and lakeside saunas.
