NUTS Ylläs Pallas is a summer trail race above the Arctic Circle, held each July since 2013. The 15, 37, 66, 100 and 160 km races start in Hetta, Pallas and Äkäslompolo; the 66 km finishes in Pallas and all others in Äkäslompolo, home to the event centre. Marked trails cross open fells, deep gorges and untouched Arctic wilderness in Pallas–Yllästunturi National Park: the 160 km includes the classic Hetta–Pallas trail and a crossing of Ylläs, while the 15 km runs through the Pirunkuru and Tahkokuru gorges. The midnight sun keeps the night trails bright, with GPS tracking and prize ceremonies for every distance. Äkäslompolo is a village at the foot of Ylläs: saunas, lakes and summer fell hiking.
