The Panevėžys Marathon takes place in early November and is designed as a city-wide celebration under the slogan 'Let's colour Panevėžys together': the dress code is bright neon and colourful shoes to chase away the late-autumn grey. There are distances for everyone: marathon and half marathon, 10 and 5 km, a 3 km for beginners and young people, and a 400 m family walk. The start is by the Nevėžis river, and the organisers say the courses suit every fitness level. Panevėžys is Lithuania's fifth-largest city, known for the Juozas Miltinis Theatre, its art gallery and a pleasant riverside park along the Nevėžis.
