Paris-Versailles — 'La Grande Classique' — has been held on the last Sunday of September since 1979, on a route unchanged since 1992, and draws more than 21,000 runners. The roughly 16 km course starts at the Eiffel Tower and follows the Quai Branly before the big test, the Côte des Gardes climb, then plunges into Meudon forest and runs through Viroflay along the Avenue de Paris to the Palace of Versailles. Bands play along the route, and the finish at the palace, symbolically before the Hall of Mirrors, is one of the finest race endings in France. Afterwards: Le Nôtre's gardens, the Grand and Petit Trianon and Marie Antoinette's hamlet.
