Öntúlszárnyalás Maraton is a spring race in Pécs in early May, based at Malomvölgy lake in a green area on the edge of the city. Distances of roughly 5, 10, 21 and 42 km let beginners and marathoners alike test themselves — the name means something like 'outdo yourself'. The atmosphere is small and friendly, with laps by the water framed by the Mecsek hills. Pécs boasts UNESCO-listed early Christian tombs, the Mosque of Pasha Qasim on its main square, the Zsolnay Quarter and the Villány vineyards close by.
