The Piltene run takes place every summer; the 2026 race was its 11th edition, with around 700 runners expected and the 10 km doubling as the official Latvian championship. The programme includes a mile, 5 and 10 km, Nordic walking and children's races. The course is a 5 km loop through the small town centre, mostly asphalt with some paving stones and only about 5 m of elevation change — genuine PB territory. There's a cash bonus for a course record, the first hundred 10 km finishers get large commemorative medals, and afterwards everyone gets sausages with stewed cabbage and a prize draw. Piltene sits on the Venta river 25 km from Ventspils, a port town with a neat old centre, Blue Flag beaches and an open-air museum.
