The Porto Marathon connects the river and the ocean: from the Ribeira waterfront across the Dom Luís I Bridge into Vila Nova de Gaia, past the port wine cellars, and onward along the coast toward Matosinhos. There are suspiciously many finish arches here — runners' reviews complain about "false finishes" that confuse the final stretch. Afterward, though: pancakes, pears, peach nectar, and beer by the water, plus the nearby Lello bookstore, one of the most beautiful in the world.

Way too many finish arches — the false finishes were confusing. But this was my 40th marathon, and Porto turned out beautiful, especially the Lello bookstore.

Kylie Coleman (комментарий к отзыву)2022

I completely agree about the false finishes — way too many arches. The course is mostly flat, out-and-back under the bridges, with a few cobblestone sections.
