Pula Marathon is held on a September evening, and its signature moment is the finish inside the Arena, a 1st-century Roman amphitheatre. The half marathon starts at 7:50 pm in front of the Arena and runs two laps of about 10.5 km through the centre — along the Riva, out to the Šijana roundabout and back via a turnaround at Mandrač; there is also a 10 km (Pula X Race) and a 5 km. The course is urban asphalt, and a party gets going inside the Arena once runners are home. A medal and a finish under the lights of an ancient amphitheatre make for a race you won't forget. Pula offers the Arena, the Temple of Augustus and the Arch of the Sergii, with the wild coves of Cape Kamenjak and the Brijuni islands nearby.
