Ciudad Real was founded by King Alfonso X in the 13th century and sits at the heart of La Mancha, the region immortalized by Cervantes' Don Quixote and its iconic windmills (found nearby in Campo de Criptana). The course is mostly urban and flat, with start and finish close to the historic center. This is the 30th edition, one of the oldest marathons in Castilla-La Mancha. October brings mild, sunny weather typical of central Spain's interior.
