Rajecký maratón

Rajecký maratón takes place in early August in the small town of Rajec near Žilina; 2026 saw its 43rd edition. Runners can tackle the full marathon, the half or a team marathon relay, all part of a sporting weekend that also includes inline skating, cross-duathlon, kids' races and a run around the town square. The course runs through the Rajec valley between the Strážov hills and the Malá Fatra, and summer heat makes careful pacing wise. Afterwards there are bryndza dumplings, the thermal pools of Rajecké Teplice, the painted wooden houses of Čičmany and the rock towers of the Súľov hills.
