The Rhodes Marathon starts and finishes at Eleftherias Square by the gates of the medieval city — a fortress built by the Knights Hospitaller eight centuries ago. The course loops twice along the island's northern coast, past Mandraki Harbour, once the legendary site of the Colossus of Rhodes. Organizers openly call it "small, but very fine" — no world major, but with near-guaranteed spring sunshine and a surprisingly warm welcome from locals.

My first half marathon in Greece. The views in the old town and by Mandraki harbor are simply stunning — I enjoyed every one of the 21.1 kilometers.

The weather gave us the best conditions a runner could ask for. The organization was very good. The slogan "small, but very fine" isn't just words — it's an accurate description of this marathon.
