'Naujametinis ruonių maratonas' (New Year's Seal Marathon) is a friendly club run on 1 January near Pasvalys, first held in 2026. The format is relaxed: everyone picks a distance from 2 km up to the full marathon and logs it on Strava, with marathoners setting off early at 8:00. At 13:00 everyone plunges together into the icy Pyvesa river — the winter swim has been held for 18 years — then warms up in the sauna with hot tea and a festive cake. Entry is free, and everyone gets a symbolic medal marked with the distance covered. Pasvalys is a quiet town in northern Lithuania known for its karst sinkholes, close to the brewing traditions of the Biržai region.
