SaintéLyon is 'a monument of French running history': held in late November or early December since 1954, it reaches its 72nd edition in 2026 and draws around 20,000 participants. The main race is an 80 km night run from Saint-Étienne to Lyon — 'the mythical diagonal between two cities' — with nearly 8,000 starters; there are also 160, 45, 35, 24 and 13 km races, relays and a kids' run. Thousands of head torches snake across the Monts du Lyonnais on forest trails, tracks and tarmac, often through cold, mud and even snow, to the finish in Lyon's Halle Tony Garnier. Lyon then welcomes you in pre-Christmas mood: bouchons, the Paul Bocuse market hall, Vieux Lyon and Fourvière hill.
