Salento Half Marathon

The Salento Half Marathon, also known as the Mezza Maratona Nazionale, takes place in mid-December in Collepasso, a small town deep in the Salento peninsula, right on the heel of Italy's boot. There are two distances, a half marathon and a 14 km, so you can choose your end-of-season challenge. The course follows flat roads through olive groves and dry-stone walls typical of southern Puglia, and the mild southern winter makes for comfortable running. It is a long-standing, heartfelt race that draws runners from across Puglia. Salento means baroque Lecce, white Gallipoli on its island, the fortress town of Otranto and turquoise sea on two coasts, Ionian and Adriatic.
