The SallandTrail takes place in early March from Nijverdal into the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park — a ridge of glacial hills covered in heathland and pine forest, one of the few places in the Netherlands with real climbing. Runners are well looked after: a finisher medal, aid stations, professional photographers, soup or a sandwich and pool access after the race. Nijverdal is a quiet town in Overijssel and a good base for hiking and cycling in Salland.
