The Salzburg Marathon is, without exaggeration, a festival-marathon: total elevation change on the course is just nine meters, the start sits on a bridge overlooking Mozart's old town, and the route runs through the Mirabell Gardens and the Hellbrunn Allée familiar from The Sound of Music. It's Austria's first organic-certified sporting event: the beer, oranges, and apples at the finish are all certified organic, and instead of a typical pasta party, organizers cook an organic dinner for 3,500 people in an "organic village." The starter pack itself is modest — the shirt and medal engraving are sold separately, not bundled into the base entry fee.

Reviews

Ken Spruell (RaceRaves)2023

Beautiful city, beautiful people, beautiful course, beautiful medal... and then there's the beer. Support from race and city was super on a warm day. Running through Schloss Hellbrunn was a nice touch.

Pernilla Bredolt (runwaytoadventures.com), half marathon2023

The course was flat and very, very beautiful, running along the Hellbrunner Allée past the castle; the one weakness was too few water stations, with locals informally filling the gap.
