The San Sebastián Marathon loops twice around La Concha Bay — one of Europe's most beautiful urban beaches — passing through the Antiguo, Amara, and Gros districts. It's Spain's second-oldest marathon, and afterward it's not customary to just head home: tradition calls for pintxos and cider in the Old Town. November on the Basque coast is unpredictable — the 2024 edition was cancelled entirely a day out due to forecast winds over 120 km/h, so a backup plan for bad weather isn't a bad idea.

mixed conditions
Late November usually brings 9–14°C and damp conditions, but this is also the season for strong Atlantic winds — strong enough to cancel the race outright, as happened in 2024.

Reviews

Bill Lonsdale (ESM club report)2019

Won his age category in 4:23:30 — nearly forty minutes faster than at the Berlin Marathon two months earlier. Conditions were perfect: cool and sunny.

Sergio Turull (official testimonial)2025

The atmosphere was incredible, and so was the weather — perfect. A personal best, and with this race I completed the Zurich Big 5 circuit. I can't ask for more — now it's time to celebrate with pintxos.
