LIDL São Silvestre de Lisboa
The Lidl São Silvestre de Lisboa has been held since 2008 on the last Saturday of December; its 19th edition is on 26 December 2026 with a 9:30 pm start. Last year 15,000 runners from 77 countries entered the 10 km, and more than 161,000 have run it in total. Start and finish are on the grand Avenida da Liberdade, and the route passes festively lit historic neighbourhoods and the riverside; starts are in waves, and the elite race is a handicap chase with the women setting off before the men. Lisbon before New Year means the Christmas tree on Praça do Comércio, roasted chestnuts on every corner, night views from the miradouros and a glass of ginjinha in the Baixa.
