Skövdeloppet is an April half marathon organised by the athletics club IFK Skövde Friidrott in the town of Skövde in Västergötland. The distance is 21.1 km on a single loop of roads through the town and its green outskirts, with races for children and juniors too, so whole families often turn up. Mid-April is a great time to test your fitness after winter and open the road season. It is a small club race with a friendly atmosphere and none of the hustle of big city marathons. Skövde lies at the foot of the table mountain Billingen, with hiking and ski trails and viewpoints, and nearby Lake Hornborgasjön draws thousands of common cranes every spring.
