ASICS Stockholm Marathon

The Stockholm Marathon runs through all seven of the city's districts and finishes with a victory lap on the track of the 1912 Olympic Stadium — the very venue where records fell over a century ago. The noon start is unusual among marathons, and it's also the race's weak point: late-May sun can suddenly deliver not the promised 19°C but well over 25°C, which is why the course has water-misting stations. The pre-race pasta party is honestly modest — many runners prefer to have dinner in the city on their own.

Late May promises 8–18°C, but the noon start under a clear sky has more than once turned a cool day into a hot one — some years hit 25°C under blazing sun.

They promised cloudy and 19°C, we got 25°C and blazing sun — my strategy became chasing shade and running through every water sprayer on the course. Inside the stadium at the finish, the stands roared so loud that no one around me had dry eyes.
