Stragardalake opens the running year on Lake Garda: held in early-to-mid January in Desenzano del Garda, it draws up to 3,000 runners, with the early-bird tiers for the first thousands of places selling out long before race day. Choose from a half marathon, a competitive or non-competitive 10 km, or a non-competitive 19 km. The course is flat along the lake's southern shore, and the entry includes a technical shirt, a finisher medal and food and music areas. There are team categories, including corporate teams, and bundles with the Granfondo Colnago cycling event. Desenzano has a café-lined harbour, a Roman villa with mosaics and a castle, and nearby Sirmione offers the Scaliger Castle and the Grottoes of Catullus.
