StraLugano is a big running festival in late September in Lugano; in 2026 it was held for the 20th time and hosted the Swiss half-marathon championships, and the year before it drew 9,477 participants. The main races are the half marathon (also as a relay), the 10 km CityRun and the 5 km FunRun along the lakefront and through the centre, between lake and mountains, while hill lovers can take on the Monte Brè Run. Add a charity run, kids' races and the combined StraCombinata ranking, and you have a real party for runners and spectators. Lugano is Italian-speaking Switzerland: palms on the promenade, Parco Ciani, funiculars up Monte Brè and San Salvatore, the lakeside village of Gandria and pasta with a lake view.
