The Swedbank Tallinn Marathon is Estonia's most popular international sporting event, held in September as a full festival weekend. Alongside the classic marathon there is a half marathon, a relay, the 10 km Autumn Run, a 5 km youth run and kids' races; in record years more than 20,000 runners from dozens of countries have signed up across all distances. Start and finish are on Freedom Square right next to the Old Town, and the largely flat course follows the capital's streets and seaside promenades. Tallinn rewards a longer stay: the UNESCO-listed medieval Old Town with its towers and red roofs, Kadriorg Park, seaside Pirita and the creative Telliskivi quarter.
