The Swiss Canyon Trail takes place in early June in Couvet in the Val-de-Travers, and in 2027 it brings back its 100-mile distance. The line-up is 166, 111, 81, 51, 31 and 16 km, and the new 166K, with 8,400 m of climbing, crosses the summits of the Jura, the rocky cirque of the Creux du Van, the Chasseron, the Suchet and the Aiguilles de Baulmes, with a large part run in darkness. Gorges, limestone cliffs, beech forests and pastures make the courses technical and varied, and the intimate Jura atmosphere is the opposite of the hyped Alpine races. The Val-de-Travers is the birthplace of absinthe, with distilleries and the La Presta asphalt mines, and the Creux du Van is a natural amphitheatre where ibex are often seen.
