SwissCityMarathon Lucerne

The SwissCityMarathon Lucerne takes place on the last Sunday of October and has become Lucerne's biggest running event, with most distances selling out in advance. Start and finish are at the Swiss Museum of Transport on the lakeshore, and the course runs through the centre past the KKL concert hall and the old town, then along Lake Lucerne through suburbs and villages with views of Pilatus and Rigi, on a mostly flat profile with gentle waves. Besides the marathon there are a half marathon, a 10 km CityRun and CharityRun and kids' races, and autumn colours and crowds along the waterfront give it a special atmosphere. Lucerne means the Chapel Bridge, the Lion Monument, lake steamers and rides up Pilatus on the world's steepest cogwheel railway.
