Szeged Maraton takes place in May, starting and finishing on Dóm Square beside Szeged's famous cathedral. The menu of distances is wide — 3, 5, 10.5, 21, 31 and 42 km — drawing families and marathoners chasing times alike. Szeged sits on the Great Plain, so the course is flat, with the Tisza embankment and central boulevards keeping it easy on the eye. Szeged is Hungary's 'city of sunshine', with Art Nouveau palaces, the New Synagogue, thermal baths and its famous fish soup and paprika.
