The Gax 100 Miles

The Gax 100 Miles is a late-July hundred-miler of about 162 km on the waymarked Skåneleden trail, starting and finishing in Ystad. The route crosses Österlen along Skåne's eastern and southern coasts: sandy beaches and coastal cliffs, beech woods, rolling pastures, fishing villages and endless fields, with much of the race run through the short summer night. The organisers boldly call it 'Sweden's most beautiful ultra trail'; it carries UTMB Index status, is part of the Swedish 100 Mile Challenge and draws around a hundred runners from Sweden and abroad. Ystad is a medieval town of half-timbered houses and an old abbey, famous from the Wallander crime novels, with Ale's Stones, apple orchards and Österlen's smoked fish nearby.
