The International Thessaloniki Night Half Marathon is held on a Saturday evening in mid-October, with runners setting off after sunset when the city is lit up. Besides the half there is a 10 km, a 5 km and a Family Mile, so experienced runners and whole families line up together. The race is based at the Konstantinos Karamanlis Municipal Stadium in Ampelokipoi: the half is three loops through the illuminated streets of the city's west side, finishing inside the stadium. Live music plays along the course and at the finish, a party follows, and every finisher gets a medal and T-shirt. Thessaloniki offers the White Tower and Nikis Avenue waterfront, the Roman Rotunda and Arch of Galerius, Byzantine churches and some of Greece's best food, from bougatsa to meze in Ladadika.
